abstract

conclusions the inter- and intra-hospital dissemination of resistant clones is a matter of concern and is an indicator of the level of the improvement and surveillance of standard hygiene, particularly disinfection and hand washing before and after contact with patients. given the emergence of mbl-producing strains, surveillance has become an important procedure to control the transmission of resistant strains. results of the 60 p. aeruginosa isolates included in this study, 30 (50%) were resistant to gentamicin, 38 (63.3%) to piperacillin, 42 (70%) to ceftazidime, and 45 (75%) to cefepime. twenty-nine (48.3%) isolates were mbl producers in the ddst test. five (8.3%) isolates were positive for the vim gene. pfge analysis among the mbl producers revealed 12 distinct clonal patterns. materials and methods antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed using the minimal inhibitory concentrations. the mbls were investigated using the double-disk synergy test (ddst) and polymerase chain reaction. molecular typing was performed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (pfge). objectives the purpose of this study was to describe the prevalence and the clonal dissemination of mbl- producing p. aeruginosa isolates collected from major hospitals in kermanshah. background pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen associated with nosocomial infections. the emergence and dissemination of metallo-beta-lactamases (mbls) has contributed to the high rate of resistance among p. aeruginosa isolates.

Prevalence and Clonal Dissemination of Metallo-Beta-Lactamase-Producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Kermanshah

BACKGROUND Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen associated with nosocomial infections. The emergence and dissemination of metallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs) has contributed to the high rate of resistance among P. aeruginosa isolates. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to describe the prevalence and the clonal dissemination of MBL- producing P. aeruginosa isolates collected fr...

The Determination of Metallo-Beta-Lactamase Enzymes Prevalence in Pseudomonas Aeruginosa using Etest and their Antibiogram Patterns in Kermanshah, Iran

Background & Aims: One of the main causes of nosocomial infection is pseudomonas aeruginosa and carbapenems is one of the most important classes of antibiotics used in the treatment of infections caused by this bacteria. Metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) production is one of the most important mechanisms of resistance to carbapenems and their increased prevalence is a serious threat to treatment of ...

Prevalence of Clinically Isolated Metallo-beta-lactamase-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Coding Genes, and Possible Risk Factors in Iran

Background & Objective: The spread of carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a global concern. Metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) enzymes cause extensive drug resistance among Gram-negative bacteria. The current study aimed at determining the prevalence of MBL-producing P. aeruginosa in Iran. Methods<...

Metallo beta lactamase producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii.

This study aims in identifying MBLs particularly Zn requiring Molecular Class B enzymes produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii .The resistance by these organisms are in a rise against all antibiotics including carbapenems and no prescribed CLSI guidelines is available for detecting them. Clinical isolates antibiotic susceptibility was determined by number of phenotypic t...

Phenotypic Detection Of Metallo-beta-lactamase Producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa Strains Isolated From Burned Patients

Background and Objective: Metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL)-mediated resistance is an emerging threat in hospital isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. There is not enough information from Iran regarding the prevalence and the screening methods for such enzymes. The present study was undertaken to detect Metallo betalactamase in strains of P. aeruginosa isolated from burned patien...

Antibacterial effects of Quercus Brantii fruits and Stachys lavandulifolia methanol extracts on imipenemase-type metallo-beta lactamase-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Background and objectives: Metallobeta-lactamase production is one of the most important mechanisms of antibiotic resistance. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity of Stachys lavandulifolia and Quercus brantii on the IMP-type metallo-beta-lactamase-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Methods: This study...
